JUNE MEETING–SATURDAY 9TH

‘BOOK FORMS’ with Jo Owen

Bookmaking has been a passion of Jo’s for many years, and over time these have evolved into Book Forms. The work is of mixed media, paper and fabrics, paints and dyes, with quite extensive hand stitching plus machine stitching.

She often uses traditional bookbinders stitching methods and the form opens out to display and closes up to store and transport. The resemblance to a book ends here as the forms twist and pop out into a multitude of shapes.

The talk includes a very short history of book binding and a power point presentation.

‘Make Do and Mend’ Workshop with Priscilla Jones–May 13th

Sue Chisnall, our Programme Secretary reports with photographs -

This replacement workshop went very well.  It was  extremely messy using emulsion paint and lots more but a very relaxed day with some  lovely results - everyone enjoyed themselves and we all felt we could have done with a few more hours!!!
Attached are some photos of Priscilla demonstrating and some of our members at work - the piece of work shown is Pat Beans.

Talk by Jo Landy–May 12th

Thanks to our Chairman, Sue Tyldesley, we had a very good replacement speaker at very short notice, who did a splendid job telling us all about her work with textiles.

Jo told us about her Open University and John Moore’s University degree courses - training as a Textile Artist, explaining that her main interests were – colour – dyeing; texture and a mix of techniques from weaving, knitting, machine and hand stitching to felt and print making.
A woman after my own heart – she cuts up and reuses many of her old textile samples and finished pieces, often over dyeing and printing to change the surface

As part of  a design group she exhibited fabric samples for textile designers at trade shows in Paris and one of these is shown above.

The Talk on Saturday will be by Jo Landy, a  member of the Southport Contemporary Arts Group.
Her talk is called from 'Print to Stitch' and is about her personal journey in textiles and the use of multi media to reach design conclusions- she will be bringing samples of her work etc.
Look her up at: southportcontemporaryarts.com/JoLandy
