REGIONAL EXHIBITION–WORK FROM BRANCH MEMBERS

As Monica announced at the last meeting, she needs a lot of work for this exhibition – it is a big Gallery with lots of space and to make it easy for those who will be helping with the hanging – ALL WORK MUST be individually labelled with your name, contact number, details of the type of work and the Selling or Insurance price.
Booking forms have been e.mailed to all members and MUST be completed for handing in  at the next meeting or forwarding to Monica direct.

PLEASE NOTE the hanging method and packaging instructions for all pieces – if you bring it in a plastic bag it will not be accepted.
The members who will be helping with the hanging would really appreciate that these instructions are followed.

WORK can be delivered to our next meeting – 12th April or taken directly to the Regional Day in Rochdale on the 27th.

Bus Trip to the NEC–Fashion & Embroidery show–Saturday 22nd March–REMINDER.

Hi to all members who are coming on this trip – in case you were not at the last meeting – the bus will leave Parbold Village Hall promptly at 8.30a.m so it has been suggested that we get there for around 8.15 to get everyone on to the coach.
Your tickets will be available on the coach.

Looking forward to the day – if you haven’t been before it is a very good show – lots of group and individual work to see and of course lots to spend your money on so don’t forget that purse.

REGIONAL EXHIBITION ENTRIES

Just to remind all members who are taking part, that the work should be brought to our next April meeting for sending on to  either the meeting in Garstang with the CEO on 14th April or taken to Regional Day in Rochdale on the 27th.

IMPORTANT NOTE – all work must be listed on the entry forms sent out to members end of January and  should have mirror plates attached to the back for safe hanging.  The work should be named and identified and packed in bubble wrap inside a fabric or heavy duty bag – all to be named for easy identification.  NO PLASTIC BAGS PLEASE!!!

If you have not completed your entry form and require another,  please let me know and I will e.mail you a copy.

Felting Workshop–Saturday 15th March with Janet Phillips

Janet runs the Threshing Barn Studio at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh and the aim of the day was to make a felted landscape or seascape using the resist felt method of construction.

18 of our members attended and it was a scene of great activity when I arrived – to make the tea and ‘watch’ – can’t do felting anymore – my wrists won’t let me!!!

Below are some pictures of the ‘scapes’ in production – can’t wait to see the finished pieces.  Bring them to the next meeting if you can.

TALK AND DEMONSTRATION BY MARY TAYLOR

Mary’s machine embroidered landscapes can be instantly recognised as very distinctive long narrow pieces of work.
All are based on places she has visited and photographed – the following piece –  ‘Ardalanish Beach, Mull’  - is her latest piece that she was actually stitching on her demonstration for the Branch last Saturday and now complete.

White Cottage, Ardalanish beach, Mull

Her method of working involves a backing of pelmet Vilene with layers of furnishing velvet for the background colours and all topped off with layers of coloured sheers, which she uses to create the depth of colour and detail in the foreground.
She admits to doing only a little hand stitch, as once the layers are combined with machine stitching, she needs a pair of pliers to pull the hand threads through!
Must be very hard on the fingers but an absolute treat when they are done.
Her work can be viewed at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh where she has a studio.

Many thanks Mary for an interesting afternoon.
