FOCUS ON OUR MEMBERS - 2

Sue Chisnall, originally from Southampton, moved to Leyland 20 years ago and joined the branch 5 years ago.
She joined the committee a year later and then took over as I.T/Publicity co-ordinator in 2006.
In 2007 she took up the position of joint Chairman with Tracey Ramsey who was then Secretary, and they have become a good working team.  As they say “a shared load……….” and for our branch it seems to be working well.

Having started to stitch when she was about 7 years old, Sue has just  completed her City & Guilds Embroidery & Textile Design course at Preston College and we can now show some of her work which is on display at the college exhibition until the 9th of July.

Sue says “Doing the course over the last five years has improved and developed my work, which has given me a new direction in life and been extremely fulfilling”
Unfortunately Preston College will be discontinuing this course after the current students complete,  as seems to be happening all over the country.
3 of Sue’s pieces are shown below - all based on her research into ‘Atmosphere’

Preston College 005
A box book cover  - inspired by a visit to Varanasi in India - the main spiritual centre for cremations.

A functional 3D piece – a parasol based on the melting of the ice caps.

The sculpture – one metre long piece ( close up of a section) – based on motion and movement is called ‘Blow wind blow’.

Well done Sue – some lovely work – do go and see it if you can.

Sue, together with 2 other members of our Branch Pat Bean and Carolyn Percy, who have also taken the course, is hoping to form an exhibiting group of 9 of the students from Preston College.  They will be called ‘Natural Progression’ and I hope to show more of their work at a later stage.
