June 9th - Talk by Jo Owen–”Book Forms”

Jo had brought a selection of ‘Books’ of all kinds that she had produced over the last 20 years – from the very traditional bound books to the very experimental types that she now does which are very loosely stitched together to form sculptural pieces.

Many have almost 200 pages of a mix of fine and cartridge papers, cotton organdie and other fabrics which Jo paints and decorates.
These include Zig-zag concertina books and Origami folded type books which are all exquisitely decorated with coloured stitching, beads etc.

Jo accompanied her talk with a Power Point presentation which included historic reference to Indian and Chinese ‘books’ of many kinds.

As a dedicated ‘book maker’ myself also for the last 20 years I really enjoyed this talk and know that the members present were also fascinated with the twisting forms made by Jo’s sculptural “books”.
